COLONELS OF THE REGIEMENT
 

Lt General AS Sekhon, PVSM, AVSM, YSM

  An alumni of the National Defence Academy, Lieutenant General Amarjeet Singh Sekhon, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal was commissioned into Infantry in Jun 1970. The General Officer has attended all prestigious courses like Defence Services Staff College, Higher Command and National Defence College and has seen active service in all theatres, in both regimental and staff appointments, including the Indo-Pak conflict 1971. Having commanded his unit in North East & PUNJAB the General Officer went on to command an Infantry Brigade along the sensitive Line of Control in the State of Jammu & Kashmir, where he was decorated with ‘Yudh Seva Medal’ for his distinguished service during ‘OPERATION VIJAY’ in 1999.

In addition to command, the General Officer has held a number of important staff and instructional appointments including instructional tenures at National Defence Academy and Army War College. The General Officer has been Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade in High Altitude Area, Deputy Military Secretary and Brigadier General Staff (Operations) in Command Headquarters. After the National Defence College course, the General Officer went on to hold the appointment of Deputy Director General at the Directorate General of Military Operations.

The General has had the distinction of commanding Infantry Division in J&K and was awarded the ‘AVSM’ for his distinguished service along the Line of Control. He has also held the appointment of Additional Director General of Perspective Planning. The General Officer commanded prestigious 15 Corps in Kashmir Valley and on completion of Command, he has assumed the appointment of Director General of Military Operations.

The General officer has two children ; a son an Army Officer and a daughter a postgraduate in management. A keen sportsman, the General likes to play golf and tennis.

Lt Gen AS Sekhon, PVSM,AVSM,YSM became Colonel of The Regiment on 15 May 2007.
