MESSAGE FROM LIEUTENANT GENERAL ASHOK KAPUR, PVSM, VSM
COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT
ON THE OCCASION OF ANNUAL RE-UNION
OF SIKH PIONEERS AND SIKH LI ASSOCIATION

 
      1. On the occasion of the Annual Reunion of the SIKH PIONEERS and Sikh Light Infantry Association being held on 07 Oct 2006, I extend to all members of the Association and their families my warmest greeting and Sat Sri Akal. 

2. The Regiment continues to do well in all spheres of activity. During the year, the Regiment has own the following awards: 

a)Kirti Chakra 01equivalent to Indian Order of Merit 
b)Shaurya Chakra 01equivalent to Military Cross 
c)Ati Vishisht Seva Medal 01 
d)COAS Commendation Cards 01 

3. I am glad to inform you that our Regimental Coffee Table Book “Soldering with Faith”, edited by Col Harjeet Singh (Retired), Ex CO 2 SIKH LT was released by Lieutenant General S Pattabhiraman, Vice Chief of the Army Staff and Colonel Commandant Bombay Sappers during the SIKH LI Officers get-together on 05 Feb 2006 at Delhi. Ten complimentary copies of the book are being dispatched. These should reach you shortly. 

4. The following officers of the Regiment have been approved / promoted during the year: 

a)Major General AS Sekhon  - Approved for Lieutenant General  
b)Brigadier Ramesh Halgali- Promoted to Major General  
c)Colonel SK Agarwal  - Promoted to Brigadier 
d)Colonel IPS Gill  - Promoted to Brigadier 
e)Colonel NPS Hira - Approved for Brigadier 

5. 4 SIKH LI has completed its tenure at Delhi as Ceremonial Battalion at Rashtrapati Bhawan. His Excellency, the President of India bid farewell to the unit on 11 Jul 06. The President commended the Commanding officer and remarked that “They are one of the finest troops and the Battalion’s performance has been excellent, Further he remarked that “Whenever I saw these troops through the window of my office, I always found them highly alert, smartly turned out, displaying high degree of professionalism and a greatest sense of pride”. 

6. Unfortunately, we have lost Mrs. Mohini Bhagat wife of Late Lieutenant General PS Bhagat, Lieutenant General PS Bhagat was our Colonel of the Regiment from 1966 to 1975. 

7. The Regimental has also lost Brigadier MV Gangadharan due to sudden and untimely demise. He was our Centre Commandant from Nov 2000 to May 2002. 

8. The Sikh LI Officers Association at Delhi is organizing a Regimental get-together on 04 Feb 2007. Accordingly, our next Biennial Conference has been scheduled for 06 and 07 Feb 2007 at the Regimental Centre so that maximum Commanding Officers could attend. 

9. Finally Farida and I extend our warm felicitations to all members of the Association and their families and wish you all good health and happiness.
