Maj. AT Ganapathy 6 Sikh LI Maj. AT Ganapathy 6 Sikh LI

On 4 October 1965, Major Anjaparavanda Thimaiah Ganapathy, was commanding a company of 6th Battalion of the Sikh Light Infantry. The battalion was ordered to clear a point on Kalidhar feature, Jammu & Kashmir, which notwithstanding the ceasefire had been encroached upon by Pakistani forces. Major Ganapathy led his company in the face of stiff enemy opposition from entrenched positions supported by heavy artillery, mortar and Browning machine gun fire. Though his company strength was reduced to fifty per cent due to heavy casualties, it succeeded in dislodging the enemy from key positions and the preliminary objective of the battalion was achieved. Inspite of heavy enemy shelling, Browning machine gun fire and small arms fire, he moved about fearlessly to encourage his men to achieve the objective. In this action, Major Anjaparanda Thimaiah Ganapathy displayed courage, initiative and devotion to duty of a high order.

On 4 October 1965, a company of 6th Battalion the Sikh Light Infantry, in which Sepoy Dharam Singh was serving was ordered to clear an encroachment on a feature near Kalidhar feature in Jammu and Kashmir, which had been made by Pakistani forces notwithstanding the cease fire. When its advance was held up due to a mine-field which was covered by enemy medium machine gun fire and shelling, Sepoy Dharam Singh volunteered and crossed the minefield to give a lead to the others. His gallant act inspired them in achieving the objective in time. Subsequently, during the counter attack launched by the enemy, he killed two enemy soldiers who closed in on him. In this action Sepoy Dharam Singh displayed commendable courage and devotion to duty.



Maj. VK Anand 3 Sikh LI Maj. VK Anand 3 Sikh LI

Major Vikram Kumar Anand was commanding a rifle company of Sikh light Infantry during the operations in the Shakargarh sector. On the morning of 14 December 1971, his company was placed under command of a cavalry regiment which was assigned the task of capturing an enemy position. Despite continuous enemy small arms, tank and artillery fire, Major Anand inspired his company to press home the attack and after heavy fighting cleared the enemy position. Under his able leadership, the company repulsed repeated counter-attacks by the enemy. Throughout, Major Anand displayed gallantry and leadership of a high order.



Sub. Pritam Singh (Posthumous) 3 Sikh LI Sub. Pritam Singh (Posthumous) 3 Sikh LI

On 16 December 1971 Subedar Pritam Singh and his platoon were tasked to clear the right flank of village Poladogra (in Pakistan). During the course of his attack Sub Pritam Singh realized that a Pakistani Medium Machine Gun was hindering with his advance and also causing casualties. Subedar Pritam Singh took three men with him and set off to clear the Medium Machine Gun bunker. He charged the bunker despite the heavy fire. Subedar Pritam Singh was hit thrice by the Medium Machine Gun burst but he continued his charge and finally bayoneted the Medium Machine Gun Numbers 1 and 2. The bunker had been cleared. Sub Pritam Singh was badly injured and fell to ground. This brave JCO laid down his life for the nation and made the supreme sacrifice in an act much beyond the call of duty.
