Maj. Ravi Kumar 8 Sikh LI
Major Ravi Kumar was the Company Commander of one of the leading assault companies. His objective was the PAK FATEHPUR POST which was located on the DUSSI BUND and was very strongly fortified. Immediately after crossing the start gaps along DUSSI Bund the company came under heavy artillery shelling and Medium Machine Gun Fire. Regardless of his personal safety he advanced with his leading section and cleared the first Medium Machine Gun bunker by lobbing a hand grenade which was holding up the assault, thus facilitating the advance of his company. Throughout the assault Major Ravi Kumar remained with the leading section clearing a series of enemy bunkers. During this time he was under heavy enemy shelling and Medium machine Gun fire. With his guts and personal example, he led his men upto the objective. He captured the PAK FATEHPUR POST by 2345 hours on 11 December 1971 and at places he was involved in hand to hand fight with the enemy. Due to great enthusiasm displayed by him, he not only succeeded in capturing his own company objective but also captured the objective of the subsequent company in phase 2. On capture of the objective when Major Ravi Kumar was carrying out the reorganization on the objective, a series of four counter attacks were launched by the enemy from the North West direction. Major Ravi Kumar with intimate support of own artillery and own small arms fire successfully beat back the attacks. In this company attacks, fifteen enemy personnel were killed and a great number were wounded. Following arms with huge quantities of ammunition and explosives were captured by his company:-
(a) Six Medium Machine Guns. (b) One Chinese Recoilless Gun. (c) One 106 mm Recoilless Gun Mounted on Jeep.
Major Ravi Kumar, in capturing of his objective and holding on to it in face of four fierce counter attacks, displayed a rare example of courage, determination and devotion to duty, and with disregard to his personal safety, displayed the highest order of leadership in the face of enemy.
| 2 Lt HP Nayyar (Posthumous) 8 Sikh LI
2 Lt Hardev Pal Nayyar, of 8 SIKH LI, was the leading platoon commander of a assaulting company, which was assigned the task of attacking an enemy post called FATEHPUR in the Western Sector. He was at the head of his platoon and under heavy shelling and automatic fire. With complete disregard to his safety, he managed to clear two Medium Machine Gun bunkers by charging at them. When he was in the process of clearing the third bunker with his men, accurate Medium Machine Gun fire from the direction of Border Post 85 came on him. With complete disregard to his own safety he charged forward and lobbed a grenade in the bunker and silenced the Medium Machine Gun. Immediately after being wounded he fell to the enemy bullets but still kept encouraging his men to advance forward. 2 Lt Nayyar, a young and brave officer, displayed exceptional courage and determination in the face of enemy, with complete disregard to his life and personal safety. He achieved his task at the cost of his own life. In this action, 2 Lt Nayyar displayed gallantry, determination and leadership of a high order.

Sepoy Swaran Singh of 8 SIKH LI was Rifleman No 1 of the leading section of 'C' company which was responsible to capture Border Post 85. During the assault, when the company came under heavy and accurate fire of a Medium Machine Gun, the assault was held up for some time. Without regard to his personal safety and life, Sepoy Swaran Singh crawled and went near the enemy Machine Gun post and silenced it by lobbing a hand grenade in the bunker. In the meantime Sepoy Swaran Singh was charged by an enemy soldier who was sitting near the Machine Gun post. Sepoy Swaran Singh killed the enemy with his bayonet and thus enabled his company assault to proceed further. Sepoy Swaran Singh displayed a spontaneous act of outstanding bravery in total disregard to personal safety and unhesitating response to the call of duty.

Sepoy Boota Singh was rifleman No 1 with the leading section of the platoon of 'A' Company, which was given the task of capturing area between PAK FATEHPUR POST to DUSSI BUND JUNC. When his Company was in the process of reorganizing on the objective, enemy counter attacked from the direction of own FATEHPUR POST along the BUND. Sepoy Boota Singh noticed two enemy soldiers at close quarters charging at him. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he came out of his trench and started firing from the hip. He shot one of them and bayoneted the other to death. Seeing his gallant action, other men of his section came out of the trenches and charged at the assaulting enemy causing casualties on the enemy and breaking up the assault. Sepoy Boota Singh was a great source of inspiration and courage to his section. Sepoy Boota Singh displayed exceptional courage, determination and devotion to duty, in the face of enemy with complete disregard to own safety and life. In this action, Sepoy Boota Singh displayed gallantry, determination and devotion to duty of a high order.
