Sepoy Karnail Singh was part of a divisional commando during the operations in Vera-Burj area in the Western Sector a scene of bitter fighting. On the 09 December 1971, the commando company was ordered to reinforce these localities. The enemy launched an attack in strength to recapture these positions. During the attack, an enemy medium machine gun opened up from a well-entrenched position on flank inflicting heavy casualty on our troops. In utter disregard of his safety, Sepoy Karnail Singh charged the bunker and succeeded in killing the enemy. In the process he was fatally wounded by an enemy grenade. In this action, Sepoy Karnail Singh displayed gallantry of high order.



Maj. RK Arora 10 Sikh LI Maj. RK Arora 10 Sikh LI

Major Ravinder Kumar Arora was commanding a company of 10 SIKH LI in the Rajasthan Sector. On 15 December 1971, he was given the task of capturing an enemy stronghold. Despite heavy enemy small arms and artillery fire, he led his men with courage and inspired them to capture the objective. Next, he attacked a neighbouring enemy locality, but was held up by the heavy volume of enemy small arms and artillery fire. With two of his platoons he charged the enemy locality, and though seriously wounded, led his troops across the minefield under intense enemy fire and, closing in with the enemy, captured the objective after bitter hand to hand fighting.

On 15 December 1971, 10 SIKH LI was ordered to capture the enemy defended position at Parbat Ali in the Rajasthan Sector. During the attack, the assaulting troops came under heavy artillery and medium machine gun fire and suffered casualties. 2 Lt Bahadur Singh noticed an enemy Medium Machine Gun firing from a bunker on a flank. Realising the importance of silencing this gun he, with complete disregard for his personal safety led a charge to this post and silenced the gun. In the process, he was hit by a burst of Medium Machine Gun fire and died soon after the capture of the objective. In this action, 2 Lt Bahadur Singh displayed the most conspicuous valour, leadership and made the supreme sacrifice in the best traditions of the army.



Hav. Piara Singh 10 Sikh LI Hav. Piara Singh 10 Sikh LI

Havildar Piara Singh was platoon havildar of the leading platoon of 10 SIKH LI advancing in an area in Rajasthan Sector on 8 December 1971, when the enemy attacked this platoon in force. Deploying one of his sections to give fire support the platoon charged the assaulting enemy. The Light Machine Gunner of the supporting section of the platoon was hit and rendered ineffective. Havildar Piara Singh rushed to this Machine Gun and started firing it. He was hit in his right shoulder from a Light Machine Gun burst of the enemy. Unmindful of his severe injury he stuck to his post providing effective fire support. Thus the enemy attack was repulsed. In this action Havildar Piara Singh displayed exemplary courage, initiative and leadership.
